Hello,
I’m starting a collaborative newsletter featuring creative works about, influenced by, forced out of us by the war in Ukraine. Sunflowers in the blood.
Poetry, thought snippets, expressions, drawings, written pieces, whatever forms they take, it’s a place to share your work and discover more.
(The plan is this newsletter will be weekly and is to keep everyone updated - the project will follow.)
Who am I?
I’m Tate Ellis, a writer, scribbler, sometime photographer. I can’t always categorise what form that takes but I’m currently bringing work together for a publication later this year called Love to hate, and the joy we feel.
I’m also new here, so if you’re interested in this kinda thing it would be great if you supported the project. As I mentioned, I’ll use this to keep people updated about the project and later works.
Sunflowers in the blood: Why now?
Because it is now. We are affected, we absorb, percolate, and at some point - through some medium - we express ourselves. Something has to come from this.

Can I get involved?
Sure. That’s the point of this. I’m looking for collaborators keen to share their work. If you’re interested please subscribe and I’ll update you with what’s going to happen next. Now I can’t say how it’s going to evolve - and maybe that’s the beauty of it - but for now, please do register your interest.
If you know people who might want to share their thoughts and work, share this with them or get in touch.
1 rule only
It’ll be an apolitical space/ newsletter.
What I mean by that is the newsletter itself will have no agenda. It’s not existing to take sides, nor to help kick off fights in the comments section. Plenty of places for that, just not there.
Will it help Ukraine?
Well, right now, probably not. As I said, I want to avoid taking sides where human lives are lost - it won’t be the place. Or maybe I’m getting this wrong… perhaps there’s something we can create from this which helps those affected, regardless of the politics involved? Maybe you’ve ideas? Get involved.
Who’s welcome?
Everyone. This is about creative expression and everyone is welcome to contribute without fear of judgement or harassment.
And now?
We may not be fighting but for sure we are feeling our own pain, sadness and frustration. So, from your peaceful homes, across wintered seas, or from your camper vans, or even from the battlefields…express yourselves. Get it down.
When’s it dropping?
Soon. Once I’ve got a few expressions of interest, then I’ll get it together.
So…
Get in touch, subscribe, get others involved and share this however you know best.
Sunflowers in the blood will also be free to subscribe - in future maybe it can raise money for a good cause, but for now let’s get this off the ground.
Thanks, TE
This is a great initiative, dear Tate. I'm personally very grateful for it. As you perfectly stated, it's much more than taking sides or lean politically, it's a matter of establishing a connection among souls and spreading good values to make a better world in some way.
