Warning! Music kills and not just softly
The hardest lyrics cut deep - so share your #hardbars
There’s some lines in songs that hit hard. Some songwriters can just pull out couplets that cut deep. Others tell stories that reveal generations of pain. These are hard bars - and I’m collecting them.
Music got me into lyrics, lyrics got me into words, words got me into writing. That’s how it went. Music came first. TE
So here’s one to get us started, one that has stuck with me for years.
We will haunt you when you laugh
Yes, you could say we’re a team
You might sleep, but you will never dream.
Suffer little children. The Smiths
Context: It’s the voices of two children haunting their murderers.

We have in common that I'm long a Smiths fan, even most of their work was done before the year I was born (1987). I think Morrissey's is a genius of all time, very few have such an hypnotic charisma as him. Their lyrics, as you said, really cuts deep. Listening to some of them again, but now in Ukraine and in these days, is an unique experience I'm still to find words to express.
From the "Meat is Murder" album, "Well I Wonder":
"Gasping, but somehow still alive
This is the fierce last stand of all I am
Gasping, dying, but somehow still alive
This is the final stand of all I am
Please, keep me in mind"
